Thanks to our amazing team at Zithulele who have worked tirelessly throughout the year, Grace Vision has exceeded all expectations for the year 2016.
We screened more patients than any previous year, treated more eye complaints, distributed more pairs of glasses and performed more cataract surgeries.
In addition, we completed the building programme and now have 7 self contained accommodation units, and we now have 2 family units, 2 Married couple units, 2 single accommodation units and 1 guest accommodation unit. We informally refer to our accommodation area as ‘Graceland’.
2016 also ushered in the final release of the Grace Vision programme from Mercy Ships. The Mercy Ships Southern Africa Office started the Grace Vision eye programme in 2009, and following a strategic decision by Mercy Ships International to only have outreach programmes which were ‘ship based’, the Mercy Ships Southern Africa Board were unanimous in deciding to continue the programme outside of the Mercy Ships fold.
By God’s grace, Grace Vision also exceeded its funding requirements for 2016 and started 2017 with a small, yet encouraging carry over of funds.
We are excited at what God has in store for us in 2017. Thanks to all who supported us financially, in prayer, and in volunteering time and talents.
